After 10 years of applications and legal challenges, KSMY-FM/106.7 got on the air on January 15th, 1999. Originally, the call letters were KAKV and it debuted with a Nostalgia format. Currently, it is a Contemporary Hit Format with Mark and Brian in the Mornings.

Owned and Operated by McRae Media, the station is located in Santa Barbara County in Lompoc. The station manager is DeWayne Holmdahl.

Studios are in downtown Lompoc at 326 North "H" St. - Suite 106 and the transmitter site is near Vandenburg Air force base, South of Lompoc. You can view the transmitter location.

The station can be heard up and down the California coast from Big Sur to Ventura due to the unique transmitter location being so near the coast. It's very near the geographic point of California that sticks out in the ocean by Point Conception and Vandenburg Air force base, the only place where the US can launch satellites into polar orbits.
